Frequently Asked Questions
How is networking included?
Networking is built into the experience, not forced into the event. The Pickup Project is a basketball networking community where people connect naturally through competition, consistency, and conversation before and after games. With our “Circle Up” moment at the beginning, it allows everyone to learn who others are, just before we kick off.
Instead of awkward small talk, TPP creates real networking through sports by bringing together people who want to stay active, build relationships, and grow their local community.
What is the competition level like?
The competition level is respectful, but the culture is welcoming. Our adult pickup basketball games are designed for people who enjoy competing, improving, and playing with energy while still respecting the community and the people on the court. TPP is built around community through basketball, so the goal is competitive play with the right environment.
Whether you have recently played or it’s been 10 years since the last time you played, there is a spot for you.
What do I need to bring?
All you need to bring is your basketball shoes, water, and a good attitude. We provide each player with a reversible jersey and set teams randomly, so no need to bring a group of folks.
If it has been a while since you’ve played pickup basketball, we recommend showing up a little early to stretch and give some time to find the facility, introduce yourself, and be part of the community. The Pickup Project is about more than just hoops, it is about connection, consistency, and showing up for your community.
How many people typically come?
Attendance can vary by city and week, but our goal is always to create a great pickup basketball experience with enough players for strong runs, good energy, and meaningful connection. As our basketball networking community grows in each market, players can expect a consistent and high-quality environment.
How many games do we play?
We play 4 timed games with a couple minutes between each session. Our structure is designed to make the most of each morning basketball event while keeping the energy high and the experience efficient for busy professionals and active adults. Number of games that an individual will play can vary, but most individuals will play at least 3 out of the 4 games.
Why just an hour of play?
The one-hour format is intentional. TPP is built for people who want high-quality adult pickup basketball without needing to block off half their day. The shorter format helps players get a great run in, build relationships, and start the day with energy. It is one of the reasons morning basketball works so well for professionals looking for fitness, friendship, and community before work.
What is The Pickup Project?
The Pickup Project is an adult pickup basketball community built to create real connection through competition. More than just a place to play, TPP is a basketball networking community where people come to stay active, build relationships, and be part of something bigger than the game. Through consistent morning basketball, welcoming competition, and natural networking through sports, The Pickup Project helps people find pickup basketball near them, build community in their city, and meet people in a new city in a more meaningful way. At its core, TPP is about community through basketball.
How can The Pickup Project help me meet people in a new city?
Moving to a new city can make it difficult to find your community, especially as an adult. The Pickup Project makes that process easier by creating a consistent adult morning pickup basketball experience where people connect through shared competition and routine. Instead of relying on traditional networking events, TPP builds real relationships through networking through sports, bringing together people who want to stay active, meet others, and be part of something bigger.
Why do people choose morning pickup basketball before work?
Many people choose morning pickup basketball because it is one of the most effective ways to start the day with energy, focus, and connection. Instead of rushing into work, players get in high-quality adult pickup basketball while also building relationships through networking through sports. It creates a consistent routine that improves both physical and mental performance.
